Park Equine Hospital Rotating Internship Program

The Park Equine Hospital Internship Program allows new graduates to gain practical skills and expand their knowledge in surgery, anesthesiology, general medicine, ambulatory field care, reproduction, lameness evaluation, and diagnostic imaging. Interns will work closely with our experienced doctors and will learn to manage hospitalized patients, routine ambulatory appointments, ambulatory emergencies, and assist in surgery. PEH strives to maintain a close-knit environment, allowing Interns to grow and develop their individual skills and interests. This program is perfect for new graduates seeking to join a diverse and thriving mid-size practice that values and promotes teamwork and a desired work-life balance. Interns may be eligible to advance to an Associate Veterinarian position after (6) months, and is contingent upon performance, readiness, and practice needs (Associate positions are not guaranteed). 

General Medicine & Diagnostics: Primary responsibilities will include diagnostics and care of hospitalized patients. The intern will be assigned cases and follow them from start to finish with the guidance of our doctors. Common cases include dystocia deliveries, uterine tears, colic, acute laminitis, various ophthalmologic issues, and preventative care.

Surgery & Anesthesia: Primary responsibilities include assisting in surgery and carrying out anesthesia protocols. The Intern will be on call for all surgical emergencies and can scrub in for various procedures with our surgeon(s). Common surgeries include arthroscopies, cesarean sections, fracture reductions, laceration repairs, and castrations.

Ambulatory: The ambulatory interns work primarily with the senior ambulatory practitioners. The interns will assist with routine reproductive work, lameness exams, joint injections, pre-purchase exams, and sales work. They will also rotate on emergency duty and follow their referral cases to the hospital for workups.

Compensation and benefits include a competitive salary, health and ancillary insurance, PLIT insurance, 401K with match, generous PTO, paid license and dues, CE allowance, use of practice vehicle, practice cell phone, and more. Prerequisites: a passing NAVLE score, completion of DVM or VMD at an AVMA accredited university, a license to practice in the state of Kentucky, or expected to receive your license within two (2) weeks of start date, USDA accreditation, or expected to receive withing two (2) weeks of start date.
